Chef’s Choice 615 Premium Electric Food Slicer Review – The Chef’s Choice 615 Premium Electric Food Slicer
The first thing that made me go whoopee is the fact that the switch is not near the blade. It is in front of the cutter. The dial for the thickness is on the side and easy to adjust while cutting if need be.
It is metal and the food carriage is painted grey with what looks like a porcelain paint. The pressure plate is aluminum (on some other models is plastic) while the food pusher is on The Chef’s Choice 615 Premium Electric Food Slicer, is plastic.
The carriage is plastic coated in a Stainless Steel, and the food pusher can be locked. With the press of a switch it slides off completely. At the bottom of the food pusher, is a tough plastic more like Teflon, that it slides on.
The knob used for cutting thickness gets dialed to zero and one more notch and the back can easily slide out. Super easy for cleaning and putting together again. It has two rods, after each cleaning smear a thin coat of Vaseline for easy removal next time.
To remove the blade is just as easy, do not use knives, the best is a quarter to loosen or tighten. On the back of the blade is a tough plastic gear. Even though it has plastic gears, it in no way weakens it or shortens it’s life span. It is a hard tough plastic.
It includes a plastic food tray which is right at the bottom of the slicer. The food deflector can also just be pulled out for easy cleaning. You can also store the cord by pushing it in at the bottom.
It has rubber feet at the bottom and is light weight enough to carry around. Cheese can be cut on it as well as soft foods like banana. If you want to cut meat for jerky, partially freeze the meat before cutting. Do not freeze it solid as this will hurt the cutter. Freeze the meat for about 2 to 3 hours. It slices much better than when it is soft. To get the perfect piece, go nice and slow, this will not get the pieces sliced together and rotate the meat while slicing.
